About Us

JuJitsu Club run by Hanshi Brian Herbert 9th Dan, with classes in both Stanford-le-Hope and East Tilbury.  Jikishin JuJitsu Association syllabus is designed to give each student the tools with which to defend themselves against a variety of attacks.  Our classes are run by Hanshi Brian Herbert, 9th Dan, who has over 40 years martial arts experience and is accompanied by a team of well-trained instructors.

Hanshi Brian Herbert

9th Dan

Hanshi Brian Herbert, head of Jikishin Ju Jitsu association, is currently a 9th Dan Black Belt and runs the Monday and Wednesday classes along with his assistant coaches listed below.  Hanshi Brian has been training in Ju Jitsu for over 40 years and has experience in teaching and coaching MMA along with Japanese Ju Jitsu.  

Sensei Sarah Bull

5th dan

Sensei Sarah Bull started her Jujitsu journey in May 1987 when she joined Hanshi Brian Herbert along with her brother. Over the last 33 years Sarah has been involved in many aspects of Jujitsu from competing in Local, National and International competitions to organising our Annual Jikishin Jujitsu Competition. Sensei Sarah along with Sensei Chris won the 2018 Euro Budo Women’s Masters Competition in Holland. Sensei Sarah coaches on a Monday and Wednesday. 

Sensei Andy Jones

4th Dan

Sensei Andy Jones started his Jujitsu journey in Feb 1986 when he joined Hanshi Brian Herbert. Sensei Andy has been involved in many aspects of Jujitsu from competing in Local, National and International competitions. Sensei Andy along with Sensei Chris won a silver medal in 2014 Random Attacks competition in the UK Sensei Andy holds the rank of 4th Dan. Sensei Andy coaches on a Monday and Wednesday.

Sensei Chris Carter

3rd Dan

Sensei Chris Carter started his Ju Jitsu in 1982 under Hanshi John Strode where he achieved his brown belt. After a long absence from the dojo he joined Jikishin under Hanshi Brian Herbet.  Chris has been part of the national team for ten years as both a competitor and uki, with consistent success. Chris was also assistant UK coach under Lee Bywater and currently holds a level 2 coaching qualification and is the rank of 3rd Dan. Sensei Chris coaches on a Monday and Wednesday.

Sensei Steve Dickens

3rd dan

Sensei Steve Dickens started his journey back in 2005 at Jikishin Ju Jitsu. He has competed at National Level at various different grades and currently holds a Level 1 in coaching, Level 3 in weapons demonstration and a 3rd Dan Black Belt.  Sensei Steve coaches on a Monday and Wednesday

Sensei Daniel Minter

2nd Dan

Sensei Daniel Minter joined Thurrock Ju Jitsu club in March 2011 and since then has progressed to 2nd Dan Black Belt.  Dan has competed at national and international level  Daniel is currently training towards his 3rd Dan certification in December 2022. Sensei Daniel coaches on a Monday and Wednesday.

Sensei Mike Gaish

2nd dan

Sensei Michael Gaish has been training since 2014 and has already achieved his 2nd Dan grading, in December of 2019.  Sensei Mike coaches on a Monday and Wednesday.

Kayleigh Hargis

Kayleigh Hargis former student of Hanshi Brian Herbert joined Jujitsu with her brother and Sister (Sensei Sarah Bull).  Kayleigh achieved her Junior Black Belt and progressed to Senior 1st Dan Black Belt.  Kayleigh assists Sensei Sarah with the organisation of the Local National and International competitions and is also Thurrock Jujitsu Safeguarding Officer you can normally find her taking our money.
